Thoughts on the book of Genesis
#BibleBased
The past few months my youth group has been taking a look at the book of Genesis and I wanted to share everything I have taken away from that, and things I've discovered. So here we go! This could get lengthy, but it's gonna be good.
1. Adam and Eve probably had children in the garden of eden.
Now you must be wondering why I belive this. "I THOUGHT CAIN AND ABEL WERE THEIR 1ST CHILDREN! At least that's what I was taught in Sunday school!" Well here is an answer. Turn to Genesis 1:27-28, you will see God tells them to "Be fruitful and multiply." Wait for ittttt......... BEFORE they were kicked out of the Garden. In verse 28a it says God also blessed them. Now I don't know about you, but I think that considering all of the following,
-they were blessed by God
-it was a perfect world (no illness, disease, idiots, etc;)
-and God told them in Genesis 1:28c to "fill the earth and subdue it"
that they could have easily filled the earth. This also solves the issue of where Cain's wife (see Genesis 4:17a) came from, and all the people who were already living in Nod (see Genesis 4:14d; 16; 17c.) So, my conclusion? Adam and Eve had already had children before Cain and Abel, which is how the earth was "subdued".
2. It is not good to be alone, or without relationships.
Oh boy captain obvious here to save the day! Yeah ok, just here me out. This is.... most likely CRUCIAL to human existence. If you read all throughout the story of creation (see Genesis 1:1-31)
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 1:27-28 ES
God continuously says "it is good, it is good, it is good", until Genesis 2.
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
Genesis 2:18 ESV
I remember a "The Twighlight Zone" episode in the 1st season where a prisoner was sent to another planet for whatever he did, and the only human interaction he had was with the astronauts who took him supplies every month. One month the leader of the astronauts (or whatever he was), brought him a robotic woman for company, and he stopped going insane. Moral of this story? We humans really, I mean REALLYYYY, need relationships. It reminds me of a series by Pastor Michael Todd called relationship goals, he talks about several different topics, but the first thing he discusses is that before humans there was already a relationship, God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. I encourage all the teens reading this to watch it on YouTube here if you are interested. Here is an example of an ideal relationship:
